Tone It Up Workouts | Week 5 Recap

Tone It Up Workouts

Tomorrow marks four weeks until I’ll be in a bikini in Hawaii.

Nothing like the thought of a two-piece to kick your workout routine into full gear.

It’s with that motivation in mind this week that I stuck with my daily cardio, but stepped up my commitment to actually doing Tone It Up workouts.

And for me, that meant signing up for ClassPass and hitting up some different studios in the Sacramento area. Over the past week, I’ve done The Daily Method, Barre, a TRX class, a boot camp, and Pilates. Sure, I’m a little sore, but I’m also feeling a little stronger too, which is really exciting.

I can’t say the muscles are popping yet, but hey, it’s only been a week.

However, I do notice a small difference. It’s nice to not struggle to lift a grocery bag or open a heavy door. I guess it’s the little things.

It’s also really been fun to challenge myself with new workouts.

Am I nervous and intimidated when I walk into these studios for the first time? Yes, most definitely.

But so is every other new person in the room.

Beyond that, the goal of the studio (at least anyone worth going to) is to make you feel good about being there so you come back. They are running a business around self-improvement. If they’re cold and intimidating, vote with your dollar and go somewhere else next time.

Thankfully I haven’t had any bad experiences and my strength seems to be getting exponentially better with each day.

My weight loss, however, is still in slow and steady mode.

I did lose a pound this past week, so I’m officially over the 10-pound weight loss marker. That feels like it deserves a gold star of some sort. My measurements also came down by at least a half an inch in all areas, so I’m considering that a win.

So for the Numbers…

Since July 5th I’ve lost

Pounds: 10.6

Arms: 1.5 inches

Chest: 1.75 inch

Abs: 3.5 inches

Waist: 0.25 inches

Hips: 1.5 inches

Leg: 0.75 inch

Calf: 0.5 inch

The most interesting thing about this past week is I took Friday completely off my diet (and work for that matter) to celebrate five years of sobriety. It was a wonderful day and my husband and I both overindulged.

Cake Sacramento

I mean really overindulged. Let’s put it this way, there was frozen yogurt, cake, and a Cubano sandwich in one day.

Was it fun at the moment? Absolutely.

But on Saturday morning I had a serious headache and didn’t feel well at all. I realized it was from sugar overload. Instead of sticking to my original plan to hit up a few other splurges favorites over the weekend, I went back to eating more aligned with the Tone It Up plan and felt better pretty quick.

But I also realized that I use to feel bad like that a lot. So much so that I didn’t even associate it with feeling bad.

It had just become normal. I figured I didn’t get enough sleep, or my allergies were acting up, or I just had a stomach that was sensitive.

Turns out, not so much.

Instead, my body feels a lot better with five small to medium meals a day and protein throughout. I guess all those nutritionists are really onto something!

So my goal is to keep that in mind this weekend. I’ll be going camping overnight with the in-laws. I’m not a big camper, so instead of looking forward to being in nature, I generally look forward to eating.

It’s camping- Chips and S’mores have always been the highlight of my experience.

But this time I’ll see if I can take in the slower pace and beautiful weather over anticipating my next meal. I’ll also figure out some Tone It Up recipes that are easily portable. I’m guessing the NutriBullet is a no-go in the wild.
