Sactown Sports Bar

Foodies and sports fans can unite at Sactown Sports Bar!

Because it turns out you don’t have to eat bad food at a sports bar. What a concept!

A little over a week ago, I had the wonderful opportunity to go to this new restaurant located in Old Sacramento.

I chatted with the executive chef, Cory Lazaldi and the owners, Chris Eaton and Shane Hicke. Over lots of delicious food, we discussed their concept for this incredibly fresh take on a sports bar, located at 106 J Street.

Their goal was to make Sactown Sports Bar not just a place you go to watch a game, but a place you want to go anytime.

And how did they accomplish this? By putting a focus on amazing food and lining the walls with more sports memorabilia than you can wrap your brain around.

Talk about two wonderful conversation starters!

And while I was there, I tasted some of the most amazing food I’ve had in a long time.

Samples included the Cobb Salad, the Brown Butter Burger, two of their Mac and Cheese offerings, the Hawaiian Burger (they make their own Spam?! I didn’t even know you could!), and the Steak Sandwich.

I know, a ridiculous amount of food. But I was there with other Sacramento Instagramers, bloggers, etc, so everyone was only having a taste.

And we all agreed; this food is insanely good.

My top picks?

You really can’t go wrong, but the Brown Butter Burger was out of this world and the 6-cheese mac and cheese was some of the best mac and cheese I’ve ever had. Literally. And my husband makes sure I have a lot of tastes of mac and cheese because he orders it every chance he gets.

Did we try the veggie burger? Nope, but you know I’ll be back and give you my thoughts on that, too!

And while it is surprising to have food this good at a sports bar, it isn’t when you find out the executive chef’s background.

Chef Cory is classically-trained in the French tradition and attended the Kitchen Academy (Le Cordon Bleu).

He’s also been a chef at many of the best restaurants in Sacramento including Broderick Roadhouse, Capitol Dime, and Trick Pony. He was also the chef at Cibo 7, a fine dining restaurant in Roseville.

Owners Chris and Shane have put their money where their mouth is and made this restaurant something truly special.

So check out Sactown Sports Bar. Not just the next time a game is on, or the next time you are walking around Old Sac, the next time you want amazing food. Which should likely be very, very soon!

I know I will be there during the NCAA March Madness coming to the Golden 1 Arena. I’ll have out-of-town guests, and what could be better than Old Sac, sports bar, great food, and an epic sporting event? See you there!
