tofu marinade | Beerenberg Sauces

A lot of people ask how I can eat tofu. But a much better question is how do you marinade tofu?

That’s because eating tofu is easy. Whether you like it or not has everything to do with how you cook and flavor it. And of course, this is something that is totally within your control.

 

For me, my new favorite marinade is Beerenberg sauces.

 

For those familiar with the sauces, you know how amazing they are for meat. From their Slow Cooker Creole Chicken Jambalaya to their Cuban Mojo Pork, you can’t go wrong.

Those sauces don’t seem too vegan-friendly, right??!!

But here is the funny thing, they are! Almost all of their products are free of dairy and animal products. In fact, most are also gluten-free!

And don’t even get me started on how amazing the Chili Jam, Green Tomato Relish, and Burger Relish are (bean burger for me of course!).

All the sauces were started on the family farm in Australia, but now they are now available in the United States. I live in Sacramento, California and I just picked some up at my local Nugget Market.

Here’s how I use their Slow Cooker Farmhouse Chicken to make my tofu that is popular with vegans and meat eaters alike.

Recipe for Beerenberg’s Baked Tofu Marinade

 

Set your oven to 375.

Drain the water from the tofu package and wrap it in a paper towel.

Then place the tofu on a plate or in a baking dish and put another plate or bowl on top. Then put something heavy, like a large can of tomatoes, on the top plate for about 15 minutes. This compresses the tofu to get the extra water out.

After that, cut the tofu into cubes and pour half of the jar of your favorite Beerenberg marinade on top.

Let it sit for 30 minutes or longer if you’d like. Overnight is great, just make sure you put it in the fridge.

Next, place the marinated cubes on a greased baking sheet and cook for 30 minutes. Longer if you like the cubes to be more crunchy.

While my tofu is baking I generally cube and cut up veggies like onions, asparagus, mushrooms, eggplant- whatever I have on hand. I sauté that up with the remaining Beerenberg marinade from the jar.

Once the veggies and the tofu are done just serve up some in a bowl and enjoy!

 

And for those meat eaters out there that want to try Beerenberg, but aren’t interested in tofu, you have countless options.
