Sunday Street on Broadway

Sacramento Peeps- What are you doing this Sunday?

If you don’t have plans- you have them now!

The City of Sacramento is participating in the Open Streets Project. This project, which has taken place throughout the United States and Canada, encourages people to become more connected with their communities.

Participating cities close down the streets to traffic in a specific area of town. Then for the next few hours they host a large-scale street fair.

Local community organizations and businesses set up booths and activities. It’s a great opportunity for community members just come out and have fun.

Sound like a good time to you?

Then head down to the Broadway area of Sacramento this Sunday, May 21 and be a part of Sacramento’s inaugural Sunday Street!

The event takes place between 8:00 am and noon, so you’ll beat the heat.

Also it will cover a large area, you won’t be boxed in.

The City is closing portions of Broadway, 26th Street and Second Avenue, in the Land Park, Curtis Park and North Oak Park neighborhoods. Here is a link to the map.

So what is there to do?

Well I know I’ll be checking out some of the local yoga studios that will be there. You can also enjoy local bands and dance classes.

Sacramento Republic will also be out in full force. Their offices are actually on Broadway, so they won’t have to travel far to set up their inflatable soccer field and stage competitions during the event.

And you’ll get to enjoy the tastes of Broadway too.

The city isn’t allowing outside food vendors in the area during the event, so take some time and enjoy Broadway’s local eateries.

Many of them will open early to help attendees get their fill of amazing food.

For those who aren’t familiar with restaurants on Broadway, there are Sacramento staples like Tower Café. But Broadway also has many family-owned ethnic restaurants throughout the area.

Because many streets will be closed down, the city is encouraging attendees to bike (I see you national bike month people!) or take public transportation.

My husband and I live in the Riverwalk area of West Sacramento, so we’ll be biking over. For those that need to drive, parking is encouraged in the lots under the W-X freeway.

So if you’re in the Sacramento area this Sunday head over to Sunday Street on Broadway!

You could learn a new yoga move, get in a little salsa dancing, and check out an amazing local restaurant in just a few hours!

Not a bad way to Sunday Funday.
