I’m blessed to live in Sacramento. We have so many awesome restaurants, and a new one seems to pop up every week.

I love trying out new places, but I also love going back for more at some of my favorites.

For those who live here, or plan to visit, I’ll be profiling some of the best places our town has to offer on this blog.

As part of my post, I’ll also give you a range of eating options at each place. Generally speaking, I try to keep my eating out a little on the healthier side. My husband on the other hand firmly believes go big or eat at home.

Basically, I do veggie burgers and he does bacon burgers.

Hopefully, between the two of us, we can offer a breadth of options at our favorite places.

So first off, a new place I just tried and am instantly obsessed with –  Metro Kitchen + Drinkery.

Metro Kitchen and Drinkery

This restaurant is located in WAL Public Market at R and 11th Streets in downtown Sacramento. WAL is short for Warehouse Artist Lofts. On the ground floor of the building is a really great open market space filled with a few restaurants and shops.

Metro Kitchen + Drinkery is one of the first things you see when you enter WAL. If you’re like me, you’ll immediately get really excited. The only problem with the menu is it’s super hard to choose what to get- it all looks amazing.

It’s broken up into three categories: quinoa bowls, super salads, and sandwiches. I love quinoa, so I was all in. The waitress told me the most popular one was The Power Bowl with Roasted Veggies and Avocado Crema. Say no more- I was set.

My husband went with the Prosciutto Sandwich. He was equally impressed with the menu, but per usual, he made his decision in about 10 seconds with no help from the girl taking our order. This is normally how it goes.

I act like I’m buying a car when I order a meal- he just picks what looks good and moves on.

My quinoa bowl was ridiculously good. It was sectioned off portions of squash, beets, roasted carrots, summer corn, chickpeas, and pickled red onion all on a bed of quinoa and fresh greens. The avocado crema was a perfectly small portion in one section of the bowl.

Everything was perfectly balanced, but the portion is huge. You can eat half and feel full, so pick up a box of leftovers.

My husband’s sandwich was great, too. It was on rustic bread with sundried tomato tapenade, roasted red peppers, avocado, and aioli. I had a bite and it was super fresh. The sandwich and small salad were the perfect portions for lunch.

Also if you like fresh pressed juice, they’ve got you covered. We tasted the carrot and ginger and it was outstanding! They also have Kombucha and baked goods, if you’re looking for a treat.

I highly recommend Metro Kitchen + Drinkery.

They have something for everyone, the food is super good, healthy options are easy to find, and the WAL is just a fun place to hang out. If you’re in Sacramento, try it out. They are open from 8 AM to 9 PM, Tuesday – Saturday, closed Sunday and Monday.

I believe life is meant to be enjoyed and our frame of mind determines how much we allow ourselves to experience the beauty each day has to offer. Almost five years ago, I was depressed, physically weak and spiritually broken. Now I feel all the blessings of a healthy life and a grateful attitude. From positive vibes to simple pleasures- I'm sharing my thoughts on all the little things that make life truly amazing.

  1. The team at Metro Kitchen + Drinkery is so delighted that you love what we offer and are deeply grateful for your thoughtfully written post. Your photography is also great – and it was a very happy moment when we all saw the photo of the front of the shop. Our fresh, brand new logo and signs were up only a few hours before you snapped that photo!
