Pushkin’s Restaurant

Pushkin's Restaurant

Have you tried Pushkin’s Restaurant in Sacramento yet? If not, add it your list.

This past weekend was my amazing husband’s birthday. We were also so blessed because my stepdaughter flew up from college in Southern California and my stepson drove down from college in Northern California to help us celebrate.

We had a wonderful time eating at some of our favorite Sacramento restaurants, including Sauced and The Porch.

But the birthday celebration didn’t stop there.

My stepdaughter’s birthday was earlier this month. Because she goes to school a plane flight away, we were apart on her birthday.

So this weekend we made up for lost time and celebrated her birthday as well.

When we asked her where she wanted to go, she suggested Pushkin’s Restaurant.

I had definitely heard of this new Sacramento eating spot, thanks largely to its coverage on social media and in the Sacramento Bee, but I had yet to go.

Let’s put it this way- my stepdaughter has amazing taste!

So off we went to brunch- me, my husband, my two stepkids, and my stepson’s sweet and adorable girlfriend. Though the wait was a bit long (an hour and 15 minutes on Sunday), we were excited to try something new, and the buzz inside the restaurant should have been a giveaway to the amazing food we were about to experience.

I’ll sum it up this way- the atmosphere is relaxed and exciting, the service is amazing, and each of us absolutely loved our food choices.

Here are the details on Pushkin’s Restaurant:

Pushkin's Restaurant

The Atmosphere

It is a brand new space, located at 1813 Capitol Ave in midtown Sacramento.

It takes up the first floor of a mixed-use building, right in the center of the block. The restaurant is very clean and modern, with a touch of handcrafted wood accents. You might say a little bit of farm-to-form modern.

The restaurant isn’t huge, but there are numerous tables for two and four, along with a large shared table that runs down the center of the restaurant.

When the weather is nicer, they have a great area for outdoor patio seating.

The Logistics

Right now, reservations aren’t an option. You have to put your name in and the wait can be a bit long.

Good food = Lots of people who also want to eat there.

We went at 11:30 a.m. on a Sunday, so pretty much the most popular time. Plus we had five people.

We waited about an hour and 15 minutes, which I’m guessing is probably about the longest you can expect to wait.  I think perhaps a little earlier, or even a little later so as to miss the height of the brunch rush (and obviously not on the weekend, etc.), and you might wait 10-20 minutes.

Parking is on the street for the blocks around the restaurant, but it only took a few minutes to find a spot… which are all free on Sunday! If you have people in your party that need to be dropped off, the street is wide enough to accommodate a quick stop.

The Food

AMAZING. Not kidding, and definitely not exaggerating. Everyone in our party was more than happy with their meal, and my husband and I can’t stop talking about our meals… and of course when we are planning to go back!

Our orders included the smoked salmon plate, the avocado toast, the farm fresh eggs plate (with bacon and hash brown cakes), and the pork belly eggs benedict (which my husband can’t stop raving on about!).

My stepdaughter and I also each got a bag of their granola to go (we saw someone eating the parfait beside us and got food envy, even though we were full)… It is amazing. I could do a whole blog post just about the granola!

We also took home baked goodies. As many people know, Pushkin’s started out (and still is) an amazing, gluten-free bakery.

I got a brownie and it was so delicious. Super fudgy and moist. My husband left with a chocolate chip cookie, which was also amazing (of course I had a bite!).

So, definitely make your way over to Pushkin’s Restaurant if you haven’t already. The food is amazing, the wait staff is top notch, and if you are anything like me, you’ll also leave with goodies to keep the experience going.

Happy short work week all!

Almost five years ago, I was depressed, physically weak and spiritually broken. Now I feel all the blessings of a healthy life and a grateful attitude. From positive vibes to simple pleasures- I'm sharing my thoughts on all the little things that make life truly amazing.
