MyYogaWorks | A Review

My Yoga Works

I never thought I’d write this, but I love yoga.

That’s because for as long as I can remember it just hasn’t been my thing.

I’ve even blogged about my dislike for yoga. I love the idea, the culture of yoga, but the actual practice made me crazy.

When I’d actually take a yoga class, it was normally because a friend aggressively talked me into it (not very yoga of them, I might add).

And while I was in class, twisted up like a pretzel, I’d be flipping between three thoughts:

  1. Why did I pay for this?
  2. Why does all this effort only burn like 85 calories??
  3. What is that thing I need at the grocery store? Almond milk? Or was it apple juice???

Clearly, I too was not very yoga-like in yoga.

But a few months ago, I discovered that YouTube has a host of yoga classes and I started searching around and finding the ones I liked. On the average day, I did a brief yoga session of about 10 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes at night.

My body felt better and slowly I’ve noticed my flexibility increase.

Recently over dinner, I was explaining to one of my closest friends that I finally was coming around to yoga. She has been practicing for well over a decade and was thrilled to hear I was finally enjoying the practice that has brought her so much joy.

When I told her about my YouTube practice, she suggested I give My Yoga Works a try.

The website has thousands of yoga videos that subscribers can access. You can search based on what you want to stretch, or strengthen, how long you want to practice, and the intensity level you want.

There was a small downside. Unlike YouTube, it wasn’t free. But she let me know they were running a special of a year subscription for $50 (normally it is $15 a month, but I guess they run specials frequently).

I decide to give it try a few weeks ago, and I’ve used the service every day since I signed up. I love it.

There are so many advantages to it over just following videos on YouTube.

First off, the videos are very professionally done. They all have a calming feeling to them.

While some of the videos I found on YouTube were professional, others… not so much. One of my favorite ones has an amazing hamstring stretch, but it was also shot at the beach with a ton of background noise. Not the most calming video in the world.

I also love how easy it is to search for classes on My Yoga Works. I can plug in exactly what I’m looking for and how much time I have and a ton of options pop up.

They also feature different series of classes on the site.

For example, they have a series for runners, another one for people who want to learn crow, and a different one that focuses on weight loss.

They even have yoga to do with your dog. How cool is that?

So, is it worth the $50- absolutely. I’m already inspired to deepen my yoga practice. Now that is something I really never thought I’d write!!

Namaste!
