Low Sodium Turkey Tacos

low sodium turkey tacos

Who loves tacos?

And who hates that bloated and swollen feeling after a super salty Mexican meal?

If you’re like me, you answered yes to both of these questions.

Thankfully, I’ve figured out that if I make my own taco seasoning, versus using one that comes in a packet, I’m able to cut way down on the sodium.

Added bonus- I can adjust the spiciness.

Because I might not have mentioned this before, but I’m kind of a wimp when it comes to any kind of heat.

I’m also a big fan of turkey tacos over beef. Using high-quality turkey has been a real game-changer for me.

My favorite is by Grass Roots Farmers’ Cooperative.

And here is my easy, low sodium turkey tacos recipe!

Ingredients

1 pound of ground turkey (Grass Roots Farmers’ Coop, of course!)

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp cumin

1 tsp salt

1 tsp chili powder

1/2 tsp oregano

1/2 small red onion, minced

3/4 cup water

4 oz can tomato sauce

Directions

In a large skillet over medium heat, break up turkey into small chunks and brown until meat is no longer pink.

In a small bowl, combine all the seasonings and sprinkle over meat.

Add the onion, water, and tomato sauce, then cover.

Simmer on low for about 20 minutes.

Done. Enjoy!

And of course, you can use this yummy mix to make any Mexican food your heart desires.

From tacos to taco salad, you’re covered!
