Daylight Saving Time Tricks

Daylight Savings Time Tricks

Yesterday might have been the Daylight Saving Time change, but today was the real impact.

That Monday after we spring forward can be painful. Even for me- the morning person poster child.

I have to admit, as I was at boot camp this morning I couldn’t help but think… ‘It’s seriously 4:30 a.m. right now. What the hell am I doing here?’

And I wasn’t the only one.

Every Monday our boot camp at Fitness Rangers is full AND people are on the waiting list. Today there were spots available. That never happens.

But anyway, here we are. A few weeks will make the change easier, but here are some simple things you can you do now so you aren’t still dragging come Friday.

Change all your clocks, even the hard to reach ones.

How many of you have already changed all your clocks? I know my Dad has his hand in air, but who else???

Most of us have that one clock that you have to get the ladder out to adjust. Or that one you can ever quite remember how to reset.

My advice- crack out that ladder; spend a few minutes figuring out the tricky clock. Just do it.

Because if you don’t, it will be a constant reminder that “it’s really XX o’clock”.

That was then, this is now. The quicker you help your brain adjust, the better off you’ll be.

Keep dinner time the same

You may feel odd eating at 6:30 when it’s light out and you’re not really hungry yet. But this is one of the few times I recommend eating on a regular schedule, even though you aren’t in the mood to eat.

Stick with your normal dinner time and you’ll have a much better shot at getting to bed at a decent time.

If you push that dinner back to 7:30 or 8:00, you are far more likely to push bedtime back too.

And the cycle of sleep deprivation rolls on…

Go to Bed

Speaking of sleep, tap into that tired and dragging feeling you felt at your desk today and use it when you want to stay up a little later this week.

For some reason, I can be really tired at work, but when I get home and the sun is out, I get a burst of energy. That is great, but that burst doesn’t have to last until 11:00 p.m.

Remember that struggle you had to stay awake during that meeting today? Use it as a motivator to get to bed earlier tonight.

Be Grateful for the Change

The hard part is over! The clocks have sprung forward and the Daylight Saving Monday Morning 2017 is in the books.  You made it!

Now focus on all the good things that come with the time change. More sunshine, the start of spring, warmer temps, more time outdoors.

A little pain equals a lot gain. So, just remember that when the alarm goes off tomorrow morning.

That, and maybe have an extra cup of coffee!
