The Perfect Fall Wedding

Woodloch Pines

Last weekend I was blessed to travel back East for my cousin’s wedding. I believe all weddings are special and beautiful, but this one was truly something amazing.

It was one of those weddings where you can tell the bride and groom are truly in love.

They were excited for their wedding day, but you also sensed that they were truly excited to marry one another. Something that is sometimes lost on couples.

On top of all of this, the bride and groom are both gorgeous and look like they could have stepped out of a bridal magazine.

And if it couldn’t get any better, the wedding was at a beautiful place- the Woodloch Pines Resort in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania.

I’ve been fortunate  to visit Woodloch in the past.

In fact, my Aunt and Uncle (the parents of the bride) have been going to the resort for almost 30 years. In the mid 90’s the started inviting my sister and I along every summer.

I have so many amazing memories from my summers at Woodloch.

It’s an incredibly nice resort with amazing food and so many activities. From Family Double Dare to “Win Lose Or Draw” competitions, we’d spend our week there once a year enjoying a wonderful time as family.

My cousin and her now husband both grew up going to Woodloch their whole lives, so when it was time to pick a place to get married, they opted for the resort over their hometown of Manhattan. I think they made the perfect choice!

Although I’ve been Woodloch many times over the years, I’ve never been during the fall.

I had no clue how truly beautiful the leaves are when they change in that area of the United States. It really looked like were walking in a painting.

Beyond all the wedding activities, we also got do a lot of the things that Woodloch has to offer over a three-day weekend in the Fall.

First, Woodloch has a beautiful lake on the property. In the summer you can learn how to waterski, go off the large slide, or just swim around.

Although it wasn’t cold when we were there last week, it was far too cold for these Californians to get in the lake!

However, we did enjoy taking the four person paddle boat out on the water. The fall trees lined the lake and reflected back in the water. It was a beautify ride!

We also did a ton of fun family activities.

It’s an all-inclusive resort so you just get walk around and find the next activity that strikes your interest. From a relaxing bike ride to pretty intense go-cart race, we had a blast.

And we only did a fraction of the activities available. There were organized games included a Halloween family competition, pumpkin decorating, and evening entertainment including musical acts and a comedian.

But really the best part was just being with my family. My step kids are both away at college and they flew in for the wedding. And beyond my immediate family, I got see my extended family of Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

I am so blessed to have a wonderful, supportive, and positive family.

Throughout the weekend my husband would sweetly ask if I was okay. He said I kept getting quite.

I really was just taking it all in. I felt more present over those few days than I can ever remember feeling when I was with my whole family.

I listened when people were talking instead of worrying about what I just said or what I was going to say next.

I danced at the wedding without worrying how I looked or wishing I had a drink in my hand.

And took in everything that was going on around me. The beauty of the resort, the amazing food and joy of my family.  It was truly a wonderful weekend.

I believe life is meant to be enjoyed and our frame of mind determines how much we allow ourselves to experience the beauty each day has to offer. Almost five years ago, I was depressed, physically weak and spiritually broken. Now I feel all the blessings of a healthy life and a grateful attitude. From positive vibes to simple pleasures- I'm sharing my thoughts on all the little things that make life truly amazing.
